Have You Lost Your Business Motivation?
Are you feeling de-motivated about your business or work? Have you lost the motivation to run your business or for your current role? We all go through ups and downs with our work or business but if you are struggling with motivation it may be a sign that you are ready for change. If you have lost your motivation here are some tips that may help you:
Recognise how you are feeling and thinking. Pay attention to how you are feeling and what you are thinking. Recognise and accept where you are as this will help you to face up to what is happening to you.
Assess the situation and understand the cause. Explore the situation and understand what is causing you to feel de-motivated. If you can get to the root cause you can start to do something to address it.
Remind yourself what you have achieved. Consider what you have achieved in your career and with your business. Think about your strengths, skills and experience that may help you deal with the situation you are in.
Understand your longer term personal and business objectives. Take yourself out of today and consider where you want to be and where you want your business to be in the short, medium and longer term. Being clear about your goals, objectives and strategy will help you to assess your current situation and decide what to do next.
Ensure your objectives align with your values and beliefs. Where your work aligns with your values and beliefs you are likely to feel fulfilled, but if your values are in conflict with your work you may feel unhappy and de-motivated. If you want to explore this further read our article How do your values and beliefs impact you at work or in your business?
Consider your options. You always have choices and options so consider your options to improve the current situation. These will depend on the cause but they may range from minor changes such as getting more resource into your business or a much bigger change such as a new job or selling your business. Understanding your options will help you decide the next steps.
Take control and make decisions. Once you have understood your options, take control, make decisions and plan out what you need to do. Taking control, making decisions and forming a plan will enable you to see how you are going to get to where you want to be.
Take action. If you don't take action, nothing will change so take action in line with your plan and things will start to happen. Taking action will also help you to feel better because you are doing something about it.
Do something different and break out of your comfort zone. Don't be afraid to break out of your comfort zone and do something different. If you just do the same things over and over again nothing will change and this can create motivation problems as you may be bored and stale. Doing something different and challenging yourself will refresh you, your job and your business.
Access support. Understanding what is causing your motivation problems, deciding what you want and making changes is not easy so you may want support to help you with the above. You may want to talk to a friend or colleague or access professional support such as business coaching or business mentoring.
